As the HR Compliance and Benefits Specialist for the organization, you will be responsible for payroll processing and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations as well as administering employee benefit programs ensuring they are aligned with legal requirements and company policies. You will work closely with HR team members, employees and external vendors to ensure effective and compliant management of HR functions.
Functions & Responsibilities
- You will be responsible for implementing and being the administrator for the HRIS system.
- You will be responsible for weekly payroll processing and timesheet management.
- You will ensure accurate and timely payment of wages, bonuses and other compensation.
- You will maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity.
- You will address payroll-related inquiries and issues from employees.
- You will ensure company policies and practices comply with federal, state and local laws.
- You will stay up to date on changes in payroll and tax laws and implement necessary adjustments.
- You will ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including overtime and minimum wage requirements.
- You will develop and implement HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal standards.
- You will prepare and submit required reports and documentation related to compliance.
- You will assist with the annual employee performance review process.
- You will maintain and update employee records, including new hires, termination and changes in status.
- You administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, leave policies, wellness programs, and other benefits.
- You will enroll new employees in benefit plans and conduct orientations to explain benefits.
- You will manage the open enrollment process communicating with vendors and employees.
- You will manage leave administration including FMLA and Disability.
- You will manage workers compensation compliance.
- You will provide excellent customer service to employees regarding benefits and compliance.
- You will educate employees about benefit programs and their options.
- You will assist with claims and benefits related issues.
- You will assist with HR functions as needed, including recruitment, onboarding and employee relations.
- You will assist with HR projects and initiatives as needed.
- You will partner with the HR/Finance Admin team to provide daily administrative support as may be required from time to time.
Job Requirements
- You must have in-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations related to HR and benefits. (ACA, COBRA, FMLA)
- You must have knowledge of labor laws relating to personnel and human resource functions such as recruitment, selection, training, record keeping, compensation and benefit packages.
- You must have proficiency in HRIS software implementation and maintenance.
- You must have the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- You must have a strong customer service mindset and skills.
- You must have tenacious problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- You must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- You must have the ability to manage your time with minimal supervision.
- You must have strong mathematical, reading comprehension and written skills.
- Certification in HR is preferred but not required.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource, Business Administration or related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of human resource experience with focus on compliance and benefits administration.
- Knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook software applications
